Seminar Program
After 37 year of teaching these seminars, first in Louisiana and then here in Virginia, we are announcing that the fall seminars in 2022 will be our last in-person ones. Going forward, there will only be ZOOM classes for the Brenda Stewart ZOOM Program, for Artful Webinars, and for chapters and other organizations. We will, perhaps, consider doing a few classes/mini seminars that are close enough for us to drive to the locations.
There are many reasons for this decision. First and foremost, is the fact that physically this is becoming more and more difficult for all of us. Robert has had some health issues in recent years and I am concerned about the load he bears for the seminars. Secondly are practical reasons. In-person seminars will, we believe, never totally recover from the COVID set backs. Folks became comfortable painting at home and not incurring the costs associated with traveling to a seminar. Hotel costs keep rising and there are few facilities that can accommodate our seminars, so our choices are limited. Newer hotel chains seldom have larger meeting rooms and the costs are just as high.
This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. The seminars have been such a large part of our lives for so many years. I also know that some are unable or unwilling to do ZOOM classes. That is a large part of what has made this decision so very difficult. I am hoping that will change as internet access improves for some and others find out how easy ZOOM is. You are only required to have a computer or I-Pad and internet access.
There are certain aspects of the in-person experience that ZOOM cannot replicate...the social factor...the camaraderie and fun we have had over the years. For that reason, I am hoping the future will bring opportunities to work with small groups in private settings. But for now...in 2023 the ZOOM program is all we will be offering. Some project ideas that I have in the works involve paintings that can be taught in less time and some more involved that are taught in multiple sessions. I am also working on developing new material in different mediums, including colored pencil. We will be continuing with the web site so supplies will always be available.
Robert, Jackie, and I have loved working with many of you . . . and you have become dear friends rather than just students. I pray that the future will bring many more fun times together . . . painting . . . laughing . . . and enjoying each other. I hope to see you in a ZOOM room in the future.
